Olympic Trials Morning 6 … new American record

Cullen Jones set a new American record this morning in the 50 meter freestyle, with a time of 21:59!!!!

He goes into the semi-finals tonight in first place, with the following guys behind him in the top 8: Ben Wildman-Tobriner, Gary Hall, Nathan Adrian, Garrett Weber-Gale, Jason Lezak, Matt Grevers, and Nick Brunelli.

So here’s how it works. Tonight 16 guys will swim in the semi-finals, and the top 8 will advance to the finals. Tomorrow night, the top 2 swimmers in the finals will make the Olympic team.

Go Cullen!!!

Later this morning: Eddie Erazo swims the 100 fly, and Hayley McGregory swims the 200 back. Cheer them on!

We did a great interview with Hayley’s parents Dennis and Tracey yesterday. Hayley has had a roller coaster week so far. She set the world record in the 100 backstroke prelims, and 2 minutes later, Natalie Coughlin broke it again. And then the next night, Hayley didn’t make the Olympic team! She is the 2nd fastest swimmer in the world right now, and she won’t be representing the US in the Olympics. I don’t know about you, but that makes me a fan!
